Does TennCare Medicaid cover abortions?
No, TennCare Medicaid does not cover abortions.[1] However, TennCare will pay for pregnancy and childcare costs if you choose to carry to term.[2] Some women find this confusing or overwhelming. How much do abortions cost?
The cost of an abortion depends on what procedure is performed. None of them are performed in Tennessee. The three options are: medicated abortion, suction abortion, and dilation and evacuation. The procedure chosen is based on gestational age, as well as factors like viability and location of the pregnancy. Dilation and evacuation is often done in two separate sessions, thus it is often twice as expensive, but it is the only option for a late term abortion.
